ABOUT US
Founded in 1954 by Mrs. Florence Barry, Encore became the first women's fashion consignment shop in the country. Through four decades and many more fashion eras Encore continues to be the leader in a field that has grown significantly. "It all started" Mrs. Barry said, "because I found my own wardrobe costing a fortune. My husband's business meant that we had to go to a lot of parties ... two or three appearances in one cocktail dress and it was one everybody recognized. I was going broke on new clothes and decided a lot of other women might be doing the same... so why not start sort of clothes exchange."

That was the beginning of the concept that has been continued and enhanced by Carole Selig, Encore's owner since 1983.

Since Encore opened its doors with this novel concept thousands of clients have bought and consigned clothing here, including former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and many other notables from among the country's best-dressed women, from New York to Palm Beach, to every other haven for the "rich and famous."
