Alexander McQueen, one of fashion’s brightest stars, passed away on February 11, 2010. His last women’s show, Spring Summer 2010, set a new standard for runway presentations. It broke new ground in its use of technology, the Internet and the traditional runway experience. He will be missed.

Jil Sander was loved by fans who appreciated smart, luxurious design. After Jil Sander left her namesake label for the second time, the company  finally found a worthy successor in Raf Simons, an avant-garde Belgian designer.  This jacket is from one of Simons’ early collections for Jil Sander. Color and leather are two big trends for Spring 2010. This jacket is on-trend without being trendy.

Azzedine Alaia is known as the “King of Cling.” His graphic, sexy vision helped define ‘80s fashion. The key elements of ’80s fashion - strong shoulders and body conscious dressing - are back. This vintage dress was from Linda Dresner, one of NYC’s most fashion forward boutiques in the ‘80s. It is classic Alaia – black wool knit, sexy seaming, strong shoulders.

We’ve illustrated this post with a photo of a teenaged Naomi Campbell in 1989. It is from an Azzedine Alaia/French Vogue editorial by Peter Lindbergh. Naomi and Alaia are very close. She considers him to be a father figure.

Proenza Schouler, designed by Jack McCollough and Laszlo Heranandez, is much loved by the fashion world. They are favorites of Anna Wintour, Vogue’s Editor In Chief. She has championed their work ever since a chance encounter with Hernandez at an airport. Proenza Schouler has won many industry awards along with a devoted following. This dress is from an early collection. It will be posted at our eBay store in early February.
